The final of Amused Moose Comedy's National New Comic Award 2020 has taken place at a socially distanced event at the Water Rats pub in King's Cross.

Hundreds of acts entered and were whittled down to seven acts for the final, which usually takes place at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Comedian Ian Smith compered and introduced the finalists, who were Andrew Nolan, Bennet Kavanagh, Jenan Young, Kathryn Mather, Lew Fitz, Nelson Gombakomba and Runi Talwar.

And the winner chosen by a panel of top industry judges on the night, is Lew Fitz.

Fitz was meant to be debuting at the Edinburgh Fringe this year and was in the semi finals of So You Think Your Funny? Award. He has appeared on BBC Radio and was in Dave's TVs Top 5 Jokes of the Fringe 2017.

He recently made the Zoom Dates Gone Wrong video with Lauren Pattison. Watch it here.

He wins a trophy previously won by Jack Whitehall, Sarah Millican and Rob Beckett. Previous finalists include Josh Widdicombe, Romesh Ranganathan, Katherine Ryan, Jimmy Carr and Greg Davies.

Fitz posted the news on Instagram: "It’s been a shite year for everyone! I won @amusedmoosecomedy National New Comic Award 2020 tonight though!"
