
Will Arnett and John Bishop brought Is This Thing On? to Liverpool with a special screening at Liverpool Everyman after an afternoon at Anfield watching Liverpool v Burnley. The film, directed by Academy Award Nominee Bradley Cooper, is based on John Bishop’s journey into stand-up comedy and the role it played in saving his marriage. Is This Thing On? Is in UK and Ireland cinemas on 30th January.
Will Arnett and John Bishop are both avid Liverpool FC supporters and were able to rub shoulders with Liverpool icons Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush at Anfield. That evening, Liverpool Everyman hosted a special screening of the film attended by John Bishop, Will Arnett, co-writer Mark Chappell and producer Kris Thykier. Also in attendance were football legends John Barnes and Jamie Carragher as well as comedians such as Jason Manford and Johnny Vegas.
In the film married couple Alex and Tess Novak find themselves at a crossroads, both collectively and individually. Facing middle age and the spectre of impending divorce, Alex seeks renewed purpose in the New York stand-up comedy scene, while Tess confronts the sacrifices she made for their family. Together, they’re forced to navigate co-parenting, shifting senses of identity and a burning question: Can love and commitment take a new form?
There was also a Gala screening in London this week attended by a number of top UK comedians including Mark Simmons and Danny Ward, who will be discussing the film on their next edition of the podcast Jokes With Mark Simmons.
Is This Thing On? is in UK and Ireland cinemas from 30th January.
