Joseph Morpurgo Revives Cult Show Soothing Sounds For Baby

Ten years after he stormed the Edinburgh Fringe with a sold out, Edinburgh Comedy Award nominated run, Joseph Morpurgo is set to revive his wildly acclaimed, genre-busting multimedia show Soothing Sounds For Baby. Named  the best show of 2015 by TimeOut  and  “one of the decade’s finest fringe comedy shows” by  The Guardian, the iconic hour will return to Soho Theatre for a two-week run this winter, Monday 8th - Saturday 20th December.

Unique and dizzyingly inventive, Soothing Sounds For Baby sees Joseph interpolating himself into an episode of BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs, chopping up real recordings of Kirsty Young to create a parallel-universe interview where nothing is quite as it seems.

Armed with an array of weird vinyl scavenged from bargain bins, Morpurgo creates high-concept sketches: a twisted take on an AA Milne audiobook, with the audience submerged under a giant duvet; a pirate radio cypher based on a golf instruction LP; and an interactive piano lesson led by Face The Music’s Joseph Cooper.

Audiences can sign up for pre-sale access at berksnest.com/joseph; general sale begins at 11am, Friday 19th September.

Joseph Morpurgo is an award-winning writer and comedian. Since debuting at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013 with his breakout hit Truthmouth, he has gone on to create the boundary-stretching, convention-flouting and hugely acclaimed comedy shows Odessa (2024), Soothing Sounds For Baby (2015) and Hammerhead (2017). He is also a founder member of improv show Austentatious – one of the UK’s biggest and best known improv shows, currently resident in London’s West End.

Outside of his live work, his broadcast credits include Harry and Paul’s Story of the 2s (BBC2), Murder in Successville (BBC3), and Drunk History (Comedy Central). He was Lead Writer on the preschool series Ready Eddie Go, and has written on multiple Aardman projects, including the International Emmy Kids winner Shaun The Sheep: Adventures From Mossy Bottom. He co-created Radio 4 series The Ultimate Choice; wrote and starred in his own show, Joseph Morpurgo’s Walking Tour; and has worked with Warp Films, Baby Cow, Blink, Fudge Park, and more.
