Hollywood star Will Smith has sung the praises of a song made famous in Peter Kay's classic sitcom Phoenix Nights.

Smith was a guest on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X when Chris Moyles played him the iconic ‘Black Bin Bags’ Phoenix Nights song,leaving the hip hop and acting legend in stitches.

During the interview Moyles said:  “You just mentioned Men in Black. Great film, great track. Are you aware of the UK… Not version of it, but if I said to you, ‘Garbage bags,’ would that mean anything to you?”

After a brief interlude when Moyles explained the big bags in the UK were the same as garbage bags or trash bags in the USA, the presenter went on...

“So, in the UK there was a TV show 20 years ago, maybe, and there was a singer in like a club, and then he ended up just having to take a job anywhere, and he was singing in a supermarket. And they did a version of that track to do with what we would call garbage bags – black bin bags. Okay? And if you've never seen it, I have to show it to you, because you should see this at least, because I'd love to get your take on it. If we just put the screen down, this is Jerry St. Clair, played by Dave Spikey, singing ‘Black Bin Bags’ in a supermarket.”

He then played the song, which went: “Come get your black big bags / They’re on offer ‘til December / Come get your black bin bags / They’re long and black and slender / Heavy duty black bin bags / No matter what your gender / Heavy duty black bin bags / Just rip with me, and rip with me right now!”

To which Smith responded with: “That’s very, very funny! That’s genius.”

Smith also admitted that he had no idea that the title of his debut album Big Willie Style had a rude double meaning when he brought it to the UK: “You know, I didn't know that was a thing when I called my album that? I did not know. Because that's not what we say in the United States. And I just remember the looks on people's faces when I was coming in, and my album was called Big Willie Style...”
