Award-winning master of storytelling and legendary stand-up Sean Hughes has announced a 2014 tour of his latest show Penguins following a critically acclaimed run at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it was named Best Comedy Show at the Herald Angel Awards.

This is a comedy show full of trademark surprises, hidden twists and recurring themes as Sean takes us back to his Dublin upbringing. He explores the utter awkwardness of teenage life, weaving in his family, his school days, the business of friendship and tying it all in to the present. Penguins asks what shapes a man’s life. You’ll have to come along to find out the connection with penguins.

Sean Hughes has performed all over the world and was the youngest ever winner of the coveted Perrier Award when he won it in 1990 aged 24. He has also won the Hot Press Award for Comedy and Irish World Comedian of the Year as well as a Fringe First for his short plays, Dehydrated and Travellin’ Light as well as the Herald Angel for Penguins in 2013. He was voted number 40 in Channel 4′s ‘World’s 100 Greatest Comedians’ poll.

He has recently launched his own predictably pithy podcast, Off the Radar, which you can listen to here.  The first one with writer Ash Ditta and Carl Donnelly shoots the breeze about going through customs and veganism. The second, with Omid Djalili (who didn't know what Shazam was until recently) and Paul Tonkinson, discusses being baffled in middle age, parenthood, modern technology and whether using your mobile on a plane can make it crash or if using your phone while filling up your car can make a petrol station explode.

The tour starts in Bromsgrove on January 15 and finishes in Galway on April 11. Full details here.
