News: New BBC Sounds Series On Love For Jacob Hawley

Following his revelatory and award winning podcast On Drugs, stand up comedian Jacob Hawley returns to BBC Sounds for a new series On Love, with episode one available on Wednesday 27 January.

The series looks at the spectrum of modern love, sex and relationships, and the experiences of people across the UK whose stories often go unheard. On Love sees Jacob investigate the porn industry, consider love in the time of lockdown, look at the gaps in sex education, the stigma associated with sex workers, the relevance of marriage in 2021, polyamory and the rise in celibacy in recent years. As in previous series, Jacob explores these complex topics with authenticity, care and humour and goes on an insightful journey as he meets a fascinating range of guests.

Tyger Drew Honey opens up about growing up with porn star parents, the intimacy coordinator from Normal People Ita O'Brien discusses sex education, plus we meet Vogue's dating columnist Annie Lord and Gina Martin who campaigned to make up-skirting illegal, and employees from Tinder and Pornhub. Jacob said: “I’m really proud of this series, I honestly don’t think there’s another podcast like it in terms of combining a documentary format with stand up comedy. Similar to my drugs series, I wanted to approach these topics in a balanced way that does justice to the people involved, especially with porn and sex work - as a lot of people get that wrong, and I think we’ve done that.”

Jacob Hawley has rapidly generated interest as one of the boldest new voices on the circuit with his astute observations and political passion. After becoming a BBC New Comedy Award finalist, Jacob as written and starred in numerous shorts for BBC Three, created and starred in BBC Radio 4’s Welcome To Britain; a solo show based on his debut stand-up hour Howl which premiered at The Edinburgh Fringe in 2018 to critical acclaim, and regularly features on Talksport. The Jacob Hawley On Drugs podcast picked up a silver ARIA for Best New Presenter and a bronze New Voice Award at the Audio Production Awards. Episode 1 of Jacob Hawley on Love is available on BBC Sounds from Wednesday 27 January
