John Robertson - Aussie comedian, Twitch Partner and force of nature, will be taking over Twitch from 7pm – 10pm on Dec 19th to raise money for Samaritans Emergency Appeal. 

The Samaritans take a call every 7 seconds, with each call costing £5. To highlight the priceless nature of a service under a huge amount of pressure due to Covid-19, Jon is running a three hour ‘Roast’ show and aiming to pay for 3 hours of resourcing for the calls in that time; £7710. 

The ‘Roast’ concept, that originated in the US, involves a comedian deconstructing and taking down a person or topic. For #WeRoast2020 John invites people to contribute their bugbears and issues of the year to be roasted by him live, in exchange for any donation to the charity. 

So far in 2020, John Robertson’s comedy streams have raised over £40,000 for charities like NHS, MIND, Black Minds Matter, End The Virus Of Racism, Centrepoint and Stand Up To Cancer.

His 48 hour marathon stand-up show The Dark Room raised over £25,000 for the NHS and Mind over Easter weekend, and left him unable to walk (ability to talk unaffected), his 12 hour Twelve Tasks of Robbotron show for Centrepoint featured an agonising hour dancing around, being the entire crew of the Starship Enterprise, and non-stop roasting his chat alive.

John says; “This year’s been brutal for people’s mental health, so I don’t want it buried, I want it roasted until it’s cremated. Covid and Christmas have put people under so much strain that even Samaritans need help – so this is the perfect time to raise money for a service whose helpline keeps people alive. It’s also an excuse to behave very, very badly for a very good cause, and I like that.”

Any audience member who donates can suggest any topic, it’ll appear on-screen, and Mr Robertson will gladly tear whatever it is to shreds, in his own imitable style. Whatever it is – COVID, politics, gaming, the fact Santa’s a jerk to poor kids, he’ll rip it up, nothing is off limits. The donation page is live now.
