News: COMEDY CENTRAL UK TEAMS UP WITH ACAST FOR DRAGONY AUNTS PODCAST

Comedy Central UK has announced a deal which sees podcast platform Acast become its distribution and monetisation partner for a new podcast series based on its smash hit, online short-form series, Dragony AuntsDragony Aunts The Podcast will be hosted by original drag queen stars of the digital series, Crystal Rasmussen and Candy Warhol.

From the 24th November, Dragony Aunts The Podcast will be distributed via the world’s most prominent streaming services including Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and Spotify, in addition to Acast’s own streaming service. The partnership with Acast will also enable monetisation opportunities for the series through advertiser access to the podcast platform’s metrics and targeting tools.

The podcast, which will contain 13 x 30-45 minute episodes, will be centred around Crystal Rasmussen and Candy Warhol devising creative solutions to questions from celebrity guests on themes spanning dating, self-image and friendship troubles. The Dragony Aunts will also hand out confidence-boosting advice and field questions from listeners, before giving their expert take on topical celebrity news. They will wrap up each instalment with an uplifting, celebratory song, based on the episode’s theme.

“The UK podcast audience has continued to expand in 2020 as people engage with more content than ever before. It’s therefore essential that we adapt our most popular content - and create new content - for this vibrant medium, ensuring that we continue to be everywhere our audiences are,” Dan Fahy, VP, Commercial & Content Distribution Viacom CBS Networks UK said. “This partnership with Acast gives us access to their array of global audio publishers, as well as their powerful advertising services, enabling our favourite drag queens to reach audiences across multiple platforms.”

Mike Wooller, Content Development Manager, Acast commented: "As the home of the UK's best-loved comedy podcasts, we are thrilled to be working with Comedy Central on the launch of Dragony Aunts The Podcast. Drag queens and dilemmas, what's not to love?"

Comedy Central’s Dragony Aunts has had huge success on digital platforms since its 2019 launch and has been localised into more than 10 languages across several territories. The initial six-episode series gained over 2.2 million views, with series two following suit, garnering 2.3m views across nine episodes, featuring celebrity guests such as singer-songwriter Mutya Buena (of Sugababes fame) and The Cheeky Girls.
