The Week Ahead: July 21 - 27

It’s a relatively quiet week for stand-up in London, with a lot of comedians putting the final touches to their Edinburgh shows. Look out for our regular previews and round-ups during the week. There is, however, one major must-see gig. Daniel Kitson is at the Comedy Store tonight as part of a benefit for the Stand Against Violence charity. It would be a pretty good gig even without Kitson as compere though. The line-up also includes genial mum Kerry Godliman, frankly manic Terry Alderton and consummate comedian Paul Sinha. 

New Zealander Rhys Darby brings his UK tour to the capital this week, playing two nights at the Shepherds Bush Empire from Wednesday. For me Darby will always be hapless Flight of the Conchords manager Murray, but he has recently made a splash for himself with his Netflix series Short Poppies. In his latest live show, Mr Adventure, Darby mixes flights of fancy, physical comedy and travelling tales to great effect. In a world of blokes in suits telling jokes about troublesome domestic appliances he is certainly a distinctive performer,
