Edinburgh 2015 Fringe Preview: Brett Goldstein

Brett Goldstein

I’ve had a soft spot for Brett Goldstein ever since I first reviewed him at a stand-up gig and he had to deal with one of the most difficult audiences I’ve ever seen, which included a drooling devil dog and a potty-mouthed old lady. But that’s another story. In the last few years Goldstein has established himself in Edinburgh as a fine purveyor of thoughtful, funny, vivid, autobiographical stories. His breakthrough show told the tale of how he ended up running a strip club in Marbella shortly after leaving university where he had studied feminism. Last year’s Scenes of an Adult Nature explored the way he felt that that pornography was having an adverse effect on his relationships with women. His latest monologue sounds as if it continues to touch on sexual politics once again. In Brett Goldstein Tolerated This So His Children Will Be Next the comedian looks at “the dangers of being Kevin Bacon, the problem of living in a post-porn world and how to deal with a shark.” After the way he dealt brilliantly with that devil dog and the potty-mouthed old lady a shark must have been a doddle. Goldstein previews his show at the Museum of Comedy tonight with Rachel Stubbings.

Brett Goldstein isn't actually doing the Fringe this year, this is a preview for 2015. But he is still worth seeing tonight and he is also doing the show at the Camden Fringe from August 11 - 14.
