News: Michael McIntyre Talks About His New Compilation Show

Michael McIntyre is returning to BBC One with a series looking back at some of his favourite moments from his primetime Big Show, including Send to All’s from presenter Holly Willoughby and chef Jamie Oliver in Michael McIntyre’s Big Laughs. In the first show Judge Rinder gets the fright of his life when he’s woken in the middle of the night to play the Midnight Gameshow, and Michael McIntyre relives the moment Gary Barlow surprised the audience by singing along to their karaoke versions of some classic Take That songs.

Below the superstar stand-up talks abotu some of his favourite moments in the show.

Michael McIntyre’s Big Laughs starts on Saturday, 6th June at 8.15pm on BBC One.

What can you tell us about Michael McIntyre’s Big Laughs?

I've tried to pick the funniest and most feel good bits from the five series of the Big Show. So that fans of the show can enjoy once again all the fun we used to have before social distancing! Send to All is a real favourite so each show has two of the best ones including; Holly Willoughby, Jamie Oliver, Olly Murs and Bradley Walsh.

There's some of the best surprises on members of the public including Gary-oake and Kylie-oake, when we secretly filmed people singing in karaoke bars and then surprised them by duetting the footage with the real Kylie and Gary Barlow. And there's my favourite surprise of all, when I stole someone’s home cooked frozen food and served it back to her when she thought she was in a Marco Pierre White restaurant on a cruise. And if that's not enough there's the added fun and weirdness of seeing an audience of 2,000 people sitting together.

Who would be your dream contestant to play Midnight Gameshow?

In the last series we only did the Midnight Gameshow on celebrities, I woke up Judge Rinder, Craig Revel-Horwood and the whole of Westlife. Celebs are just so showbiz that after the initial shock they suddenly realise they're on Saturday night TV and throw themselves in to the game. I'm not sure when I can do the Midnight Gameshow again, the lockdown will be eased in phases and I'm reliably informed that breaking in to other people's homes in the middle of the night to host a surprise gameshow, is the final phase.

With regards to dream contestants, as usual we'll contact Buckingham Palace to try to wake up The Queen, and then work our way down the list...

Speaking of Judge Rinder, has he forgiven you yet?

Judge Rinder is the exception to the rule of celebrities ultimately enjoying playing the Midnight Gameshow. He genuinely hated the whole thing which made for hilarious television. The whole point of the Midnight Gameshow is to give someone the most insane and surreal experience when they're are semi-conscious and Judge Rinder residing over Sooty in the dock at the end of his bed represented by his lawyer Sweep will forever be my favourite moment, and is of course in the first compilation show.

How’s the lockdown hair?

My hair has always grown very fast and strangely grows upwards and outwards and never seems to fall like most people with long hair. So after a few months of lockdown it had grown so far away from my head I considered letting it grow two metres to help me keep socially distanced. Instead I decided to let my wife loose with the clippers. The result is a disaster! I am so embarrassed that even if the lockdown ended tomorrow I would stay at home for at least a month until it grew back.
