News: Daniel Sloss Writes First Book

News: Stand Announces Second Online Live Show With Frankie Boyle, Daniel Sloss And More

Comedian Daniel Sloss has written his first book. It is called Everyone You Hate is Going to Die: And Other Comforting Thoughts on Family, Friends, Sex, Love and More Things That Ruin Your Life.

It will be published in hardcover in the UK on November 5 by William Heineman Books, price £14.99. It will be published in America on November 3 by Knopf. Both imprints are part of the Penguin Random House group.

The acclaimed Scottish comedian revealed that he is working on the book in a wide-ranging interview with YouTube sensation Philip DeFranco. The book picks up from his show Jigsaw which dissected relationships and has, to date, said Sloss in the interview, triggered 158 divorces and 90,000 break-ups. He used to keep a running tally until it got out of hand. People used to ask him to autograph their divorce papers.

In the interview Sloss calls Jigsaw "a love letter to single people" and suggests that people get into "shitty relationships" because they are no good at being on their own.

He told DeFranco, who has two regular high-rating shows which have clocked up over 3 billion views in total, how he was approached to write the book: "Now I’m the relationship guru, naturally given my history of destroying relationships they were like do you want to write a book?"

He added that it will take the form of "a bunch if my horrible opinions on things along with some stories and the standard thing I do which is the occasional nice profound line in there massively drowned out by the word cunt."

He joked about the book being published in America on November 3 which is election day: "On that day people need a fucking laugh."

Sloss currently has two stand-up specials streamed on Netflix, Dark and Jigsaw. His most recent show X is currently streaming on HBO in America and Canada and was recently screened across the UK in Vue cinemas.

The book is already available to pre-order. The blurb says that Sloss explores "every conceivable kind of relationship between two people – with one's country, with America, with lovers, ex-lovers, ex-lovers who you hate, ex-lovers who hate you, parents, best friends (male and female), not-best friends, children, and siblings. Every relationship gets the full, inimitable Sloss treatment as he explains why each one is fragile and ridiculous and awful, but, just maybe, also valuable and meaningful."

In the lengthy, in-depth interview with De Franco Sloss talked about a number of other subjects, from the stress of life on the road and touring the world to learning about masturbation at school to first getting into comedy when as a child he used to sneak downstairs and pretend to be sick and stay up late watching comedians such as Jack Dee with his parents. He also talked about working in the USA and said: "I’ve never in my life met a normal American."
