News: Ben Elton to Front Scope Charity Night

Comedy legend, playwright and author Ben Elton is to host a special evening of stand up comedy for disability equality charity Scope. Ben Elton's Comedy Night for Scope is at The Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Saturday 21 December 2019.

The full line-up is still to be announced.

Elton, Patron of disability equality charity Scope, says: “It’s an honour to perform at this special comedy event for disability equality charity Scope. I can’t think of a more fitting way to end the year. As a Scope Patron, I know too well that negative attitudes towards disabled people are no laughing matter, but I believe that comedy can play a key role in challenging misconceptions and tackling negative attitudes. Scope research has found 49 percent of disabled people feel excluded from society. We all need to see more disabled people on the stage, on our screens and in the media, and this exceptional event puts disabled people firmly centre stage.”

The announcement comes as the charity showcases research that shines a light on how underrepresented disabled people are in creative industries. When disabled people don’t see themselves represented on our screens, talent and potential goes unrecognised and negative attitudes and stigma go unchallenged.

The show will take place on Saturday 21 December 2019 at Shepherd’s Bush Empire, Shepherd's Bush Green, White City, London W12.
