Comedian Mark Thomas is celebrating the news that Salford City Council has scrapped a ban on swearing.
The Council had previously outlawed foul and abusive language in Salford Quays.
Thomas said the ban, which has now expired, was "ridiculous" and should never have been imposed three years ago in a bid to curb anti-social behaviour.
Those who breached the order could be issued with an on-the-spot fine of up to £1,000 but reports say nobody was ever fined for swearing there.
Thomas told the BBC it was "the most insane piece of censorship", adding that Public Spaces Protection Orders "enabled councils to bring in draconian legislation and outlaw types of activities and behaviour that were previously legal".
He also swore when asked for a comment but the BBC website does not report what expletive he used. On Twitter he said: "Whoo- fucking -hooo" and also "Hoo fucking ray".
Mark Thomas is not doing a show in Edinburgh this summer but has has directed Sweet Little Mystery, in which singer Sarah Jane Morris celebrates the work of musician John Martyn.
