Edinburgh Fringe Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Aaron Simmonds

6. What do your parents (delete as applicable) think of your job?

My dad is annoyed because I used to be a personal trainer and I used to train him, but now he has to pay for his new trainer. Apart from that they are both very supportive.

7. What’s the worst thing about being a comedian?

The constant fear of parking tickets.

8. I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m asking these questions). What do you think of you?

I think I'm good for someone who's still relatively new at this, I feel like I've hit my stride in the last 6-12 months

9. How much do you earn and how much would you like to earn?

Just enough to live off. I would like to live comfortably and not have to stress when an invoice takes two weeks longer to get paid than I was told it would.

10. How important is luck in terms of career success – have you had lucky breaks?

Anyone who thinks that luck isn't important in this business is clearly either deluded or an egomaniac. Or both. I've had quite a bit of luck, but you've got to make the most of when it comes around.

11. Alan Davies has said that comedians fall into two categories - golfers and self-harmers. The former just get on with life, the latter are tortured artists. Which are you – or do you think you fit into a third category?

Despite never playing golf, I would say I'm more of a golfer than a self harmer. I need to point out, just in case my mum reads this, I've never done any self harming either.

12. Who is your favourite person ever and why – not including family or friends or other comedians?

Jos Buttler. England wicket keeper and one of the best cricketers in the world. I have told every girlfriend that I have ever had that I will never love them as much as I love Jos Buttler. Mainly because they haven't hit a 46-ball hundred against Pakistan.

13. Do you keep your drawers tidy and if not why not? (please think long and hard about this question, it's to settle an argument with my girlfriend. The future of our relationship could depend on your response).

My drawers are very tidy, mainly because I don't have any clothes in them as all of them are on my bedroom floor.
