News: Broadcast Date Confirmed For Shearsmith/Pemberton Documentary

The date has been confirmed for the South Bank Show documentary looking at the work or Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton.

The documentary will be transmitted on Sky Arts on Tuesday 30 July, 10pm on Sky Arts and NOW TV.

In new exclusive in-depth interviews Melvyn Bragg talks to Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith about their early influences and inspirations. They discuss their ground-breaking dark comedy The League of Gentlemen and the stories behind some of its most infamous characters, with contributions from Mark Gatiss and Jeremy Dyson. The programme has exclusive access to Steve and Reece’s writing room, as they work on scripts for the new series of Inside No. 9, and follows them on set, as they film a new episode.

Speaking about the new series, Melvyn Bragg said: “The South Bank Show has always - since 1978 - treated television drama on a par with theatrical productions.  As a result, we have shown viewers some of the work of the best and most popular dramatists in this country.  In many ways, television drama could be considered the new national theatre.  This series, we’re devoting four programmes to television writers whose range and power is undeniable.”

The new South Bank Show series starts on July 16 on Sky Arts with a profile of Jed 'Line of Duty' Mercurio.
