News: Comedy Store London Celebrates 40th Birthday With All-Star Gig

New Tour Dates For Jack Dee

The Comedy Store in London marked its fortieth birthday last night with a party at the Cafe De Paris. But before that there was the small matter of an enormous gig at the Piccadilly Circus venue in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust and celebrating the club's founder Don Ward, without whom the comedy scene in the UK would be very different - in fact it might not even exist.

Alexei Sayle, the original compere in May 1979 when the club opened in Dean Street/Meard Street, launched proceedings and was followed by a cavalcade of comedians who had played the venue over the last four decades. They included superstars Michael McIntyre, John Bishop, Paul Merton, Omid Djalili and Jack Dee as well as rising stars including Angela Barnes, Tom Ward, Adam Rowe and Judi Love. Full report to follow when I've deciphered my extensive note, but in the meantime enjoy these pictures.
