Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Danielle Walker: Page 2 of 2

6. What do your parents think of your job?

My parents like it, my mum loves it every time I talk about her. Even if I'm not being complimentary she is quite happy to loudly declare 'THAT'S ME! I'M HER MUM!'

7. What’s the worst thing about being a comedian?

Having people tell you boring stories and then saying "You can use that in your comedy". It always feels like a bit of a neg, like is that what you think my comedy is? just boring meandering stories with no real ending?

8. I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m asking these questions). What do you think of you?

Thank you, I really enjoy what I do, I think it's very fun and silly.

9. How much do you earn and how much would you like to earn?

I earn enough to survive, I would like to earn enough to be able to go to brunch whenever I like (honestly probably every second day) without thinking about how it will impact my budget.

10. How important is luck in terms of career success – have you had lucky breaks?

I don't think luck can maintain a career. I think only hard work can do that. Hard work or reality TV.

11. Alan Davies has said that comedians fall into two categories - golfers and self-harmers. The former just get on with life, the latter are tortured artists. Which are you – or do you think you fit into a third category?

I think depending on my mental health I switch backwards and forwards between the two. That also depends on the weather, is it grey and dreary? well I guess I'm a 'self-harmer'. Is it sunny and I have new material that is fun to do? Well I guess I'm a 'golfer'.

12. Who is your favourite person ever and why – not including family or friends or other comedians?

So a stranger? Or like a podcast host? I can't say my boyfriend because he used to do comedy and we used to be friends before we were together. NOT ANYMORE!! NOW WE ARE MORTAL ENEMIES!!!...Sorry about that, that was silly and aggressive.

There's a middle aged man who owns the cafe around the corner from my house and he always makes bad dad jokes at me, and once he was really sad because he lost his cat and he was really sad and flustered, but then he found the cat, he told me when he ran into me at the grocery store, he was buying a whole cooked chook to give to his cat because he was so happy he was home. So that's pretty sweet.

13. Do you keep your drawers tidy and if not why not? (please think long and hard about this question, it's to settle an argument with my girlfriend. The future of our relationship could depend on your response).

Yes I keep my drawers tidy, except for the sock drawer, it is my opinion you can't make socks neat. Why does it matter? just have seperate drawers. If your biggest problem is how you keep your drawers that sounds like a really solid relationship. I hope you leave the brackets in when you post this or whatever you're doing with this because I'm responding to them and I'm gonna look like a psycho is you take them out.
