News: Hardeep Singh Kohli Joins Celebrity Big Brother

Comedian Hardeep Singh Kohli has joined this year's Celebrity Big Brother line-up. He has had to cancel his Edinburgh Fringe run to appear on the show.

Kohli, 49, grew up in Glasgow and studied law at university. He has appeared regularly at the Edinburgh Festival, combining his love of comedy and food in his 2009 show, The Nearly Naked Chef in which he cooked curry onstage. His book Indian Takeaway was published in 2008.

He also wrote the Channel 4 sitcom Meet The Magoons and lived on the streets while filming Famous, Rich and Homeless for the BBC.

He was also a reporter on The One Show. In 2009 he was suspended for six months after behaving inappropriately towards a female researcher. He said: "I recognise I overstepped the mark and have apologised unreservedly."

The first celebrity to enter the house was Cheers star Kirstie Alley.

Celebrity Big Brother is on Channel 5 at 9pm.
