News: Soho Theatre Streams Comedy Shows

Soho Theatre has expanded their digital service. They are now streaming on demand comedy content including Dane Baptiste, Mae Martin, Nish Kumar, Panti Bliss, Jessie Cave and Joel Dommett.

Their current digital partners include Nesta’s Arts Impact Fund which has backed the project; Comedy Central UK who screened six comedy specials Soho Theatre Live from rising stars Nish Kumar, Mae Martin, Richard Gadd, Joel Dommett, Dane Baptiste and Rhys James last summer; Virgin TV who are currently screening in UK and ROI; and Easel TV who are providing the high-quality video service behind our digital platform enabling people to view a live comedy show filmed at Soho Theatre.

Mark Godfrey, Soho Theatre Executive Director, said: “Soho Theatre On Demand enables us to bring some of the best comedy shows from Soho Theatre to a wider audience – extending the live experience to audiences who may not have the opportunity to visit our venue in person. As well as opening Soho’s comedy programme to as many people as possible, it’s also a way of collaborating with the stars of the future to build an invaluable archive of their work, preserving some brilliant early shows for them and their fans which previously would have been confined to history.”

Shows cost £4 to view. The current roster features:

Adam Hess: Adam presents an hour of endearing and hilarious tales of misfortune. Chortle’s Best UK Circuit Comedian 2015 proves his worth with fast paced storytelling about everything from relationships to getting very lost on the Thames.

Dane Baptiste the multi-award nominated comedian presents an exclusive collection of his favourite previously unseen material spanning the last five years.

Jessie Cave returns to Soho Theatre after four sell-out seasons for a one off special of I Loved Her. Jessie opens up her DIY heart and explains in definitely too much detail her insecurities, jealousies, fantasies and her exact current relationship status via shadow puppetry, masks and her little book of confessions. Jessie will bring her acute blend of confessional comedy and DIY Performance Art in her new show Sunrise to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe as part of Soho Theatre’s programme before a three-week run at Soho Theatre in November.

Joel Dommett: a regular on our TV screens (I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here for one). He is addicted to smoking breadsticks (a habit from childhood) and has some pretty brilliantly ridiculous stories to tell.

Josie Long: Three-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee and cult optimist with her most personal show to date – about love and being outdoorsy as a bear.

Mae Martin: Two-time Canadian Comedy Award Nominee Mae Martin comes back to Soho Theatre with her hugely successful show Us. A clever and innovative breaking down of the labels that we put on others and ourselves. The 2018 Chortle Award winner and star of BBC Radio Four returns to Soho Theatre in August with The Mae Martin Experiment, an improvised hour of stand-up based on the audience’s suggestions.

Nish Kumar: Two-time Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Show Nominee (2015 & 2016), star of The Mash Report (BBC Two) and his very own BBC Radio 4 series, Nish is back at Soho Theatre with a very special greatest hits set. Nish will return to Soho Theatre in October with his new show It’s In Your Nature To Destroy Yourselves as part of his autumn national tour.
