News: Social Media Brings Comedian Glenn Wool And Fan Together

Who says there is no romance in the world of stand-up comedy?

Three years ago Canadian comedian Glenn Wool was tagged in a tweet sent by Amber Morris who wrote "Excuse me @Glennwool it's my best friend @AlexandraCurry's birthday soon, I was hoping you might marry her as a present."

The much-travelled UK-based Wool replied: "Nobody deserves that kind of punishment, let alone on their birthday." To which Alex Curry chipped in: "I'm a glutton for punishment."

A friendly online conversation ensued. They arranged to meet and it looks like things went pretty well. Alex Curry, who works as a flight attendant for a corporate airline, is now getting the birthday present she wanted back in 2015. They have already had a son in the last year and live together in Chelmsford. And earlier this week Glenn Wool proposed and Alex Curry said yes. They have just announced their engagement and hope to marry in 2019*.

It's the sort of thing that would make a great Edinburgh show with a happy ending, but Wool has already planned this year's show. He is performing a retrospective, Wool's Gold II (The Iron Pirate) at the Monkey Barrel from August 2 - 25. Tickets and information here.

*Update: 20/5/20 - they've just celebrated their first wedding anniversary.
