News: Episodes To Return for Final Series

Episodes, the sitcom starring Matt LeBlanc, Stephen Mangan and Tamsin Greig, is to return for one final series. The fifth series starts on BBC2 on March 30.

This hilarious series comes from visionary creators David Crane (Friends) and Jeffrey Klarik (Mad About You). The show has earned them Emmy nominations for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy for each of the four previous seasons, as well as multiple Writers Guild and Golden Globe nominations. Crane and Klarik have once again written all the episodes this season. Klarik directs all episodes as well.

Matt LeBlanc returns to play an outrageous version of himself, a role for which he won a Golden Globe and received four Emmy nominations for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy. Stephen Mangan (Green Wing) and Tamsin Greig (Friday Night Dinner) play Sean and Beverly Lincoln, an English couple who are brought to the US to remake their hit UK sitcom for American audiences, only to see it corrupted beyond all recognition.

In the first four series Sean and Beverly were lured to Hollywood to adapt their much-loved British boarding-school comedy, Lyman’s Boys, only to have itmangled by their American network into Pucks!, a sitcom about a high school hockey coach starring Matt LeBlanc. Sean and Beverly moved on to pursue another project, The Opposite of Us. Meanwhile, Matt’s financial woes forced him to take a job hosting a network gameshow, The Box.

At the start of the final season, several months have passed. The Box is now a runaway hit. Unfortunately for Matt, this means he is now only thought of as a gameshow host, his years as an actor completely forgotten. Matt’s agent tries to persuade him this is all for the best: “Can’t you just think of it as reinventing yourself?” Matt shoots back: “As a shittier version of me?!” The success of The Box also means that Matt must have daily contact with his nemesis Merc Lapidus (John Pankow). If anything, the animosity between the two has only gotten worse over time. As Matt is the star of the show, he would seem to have some leverage over his producer. But then he makes a decision that puts him right in the palm of Merc’s sweaty hand...

Sean and Beverly are equally miserable. In the final moments of the previous season, Helen Basch (Andrea Savage), the head of the network, put Sean’s loathsome ex-partner Tim in charge of The Opposite of Us. Sean and Beverly must now endure Tim’s utter lack of humour or talent as they watch him slowly destroy their show. Kathleen Rose Perkins returns as Carol Rance, former network honcho and Beverly’s best friend. Mircea Monroe is again Morning Randolph, Matt’s former Pucks! co-star, whose youthful ppearance is a miracle of modern science.
