News: Matt Lucas Wins Comedy Award

Matt Lucas has been honoured with the Comedy Award at The Virgin Holidays Attitude Awards.

The Little Britain star was presented with the award by comedian Joe Lycett at London’s Roundhouse last night.

Lucas has recently published his autobiography, Little Me: My life from A-Z, in which he talks candidly about his childhood and the trauma of losing all of his hair as a six-year-old.

The acclaimed comedian recently said in an interview with the Big Issue that if he made Little Britain today he would avoid playing black characters or make jokes about transvestites: “Basically, I wouldn’t make that show now. It would upset people. We made a more cruel kind of comedy than I’d do now. Society has moved on a lot since then and my own views have evolved. There was no bad intent there – the only thing you could accuse us of was greed. We just wanted to show off about what a diverse bunch of people we could play.”
