News: William G Stewart Dies

TV quizmasterr William G Stewart has died. He was 84.

His agent said: “Sadly, William G Stewart passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by his family after a brief illness.”

Stewart was best known for fronting the long-running C4 quiz Fifteen-To-One, but before then he had a reputation as a formidable maker of TV comedy programmes.

Before finding fame in front of the cameras he produced and directed classic sitcoms including Father, Dear Father, Bless This House, and Love Thy Neighbour.

Sandi Toksvig, who took over as fifteen-To-One host when the programme was revised said: “A lovely man, a consummate TV professional and, of course, host of 15 to 1 long before I stepped up.”
