Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin, the team behind shows including Drop The Dead Donkey and Outnumbered, are working on a new satirical show which will go out on weeknights in the run-up to the General Election.
Election Spy will be a short show broadcast just before Newsnight. It will be filmed on the afternoon of transmission and will take a comic look behind the scenes at the political parties, reacting to the day's themes, rows and catastrophes. The cast has not been officially announced.
Hamilton and Jenkin have been pioneers of topical sitcoms with both Drop The Dead Donkey and Ballot Monkeys – which both aired on C4 – being filmed close to transmission so that they could comment on unfolding events.
Election Spy starts on May 30 and goes out nightly at 10.30pm on BBC2 until after the General Election on June 8.
