News: Tony Blair To Appear On Unspun With Matt Forde

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair is the special guest on the latest edition of Unspun With Matt Forde, on Dave tonight (Wednesday) at 10pm.

His appearance was kept highly secret in the run-up but it was clear that this week's political interviewee was someone big because there was more security than usual when the programme was filmed in London last night.

According to a report in the Mirror Tony Blair said on the show that he would never have been the Prime Minister if social media had existed when he was in a rock band at Oxford Univeristy because  "bad stuff" he did as a student would have been revealed.

Forde showed him an old snap of Blair wearing a straw boater when in band Ugly Rumours to which he responded: "Let this be a warning to any young person that wants a political career. That is one of the very few pictures of me that is highly embarrassing. Today with social media, just be careful. When I was in the band, if we had social media, I certainly wouldn't have been Prime Minister."

Matt Forde was also more serious with him, asking about the current political climate. Blair defended Theresa May's friendship with Donald Trump, saying "People want me to criticise Theresa May over this but I think the British Prime Minister should always get on well with the president of the United States. It has got its challenges obviously. But it is important because in the end there are many things we are going be working on together in different parts of the world."

The ex-PM turned down the offer to pick up a guitar again and join the house band, MP4, made up of MPs and former MPs.

Unspun with Matt Forde, Dave, tonight (Wednesday), 10pm.
