A London run has been announced for the sell-out Edinburgh show Mr. Swallow – Houdini. The story of magician Harry Houdini, complete with song, dance and real magic tricks, will run at the Soho Theatre for six weeks from January 10.
Mr. Swallow is the creation of 2015 Chortle Award nominee Nick Mohammed. Thias is the follow up to his last stage hit, Dracula! Mr Swallow The Musical. Both shows have been acclaimed by critics and audiences alike and yet have mysteriously missed out on major Edinburgh comedy awards.
Nick Mohammed is a comedy writer, performer and actor with recent roles in Ridley Scott’s The Martian, Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, Bridget Jones’s Baby and upcoming features The Sense of an Ending and Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms due out in 2017/18.
On TV he has appeared in a host of comedies including multiple series of Drifters and Hank Zipzer as well as roles in Fresh Meat, Cuckoo, The Job Lot, Life’s Too Short, Camping, Murder in Successville, Together and Miranda. He is also due to appear in the Channel 4 series Morning Has Broken, co-written by and co-starring Julia Davis and David Schwimmer.
Mr. Swallow – Houdini co-stars David Elms (Musical Comedy Awards 2014 winner, BBC3’s Comedy Marathon) and Kieran Hodgson (Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award 2015 & 2016 nominee, BBC2’s We’re Doomed! The Dad’s Army Story, E4’s Drifters). The show is directed by Matt Peover (Mr. Swallow – The Musical, Nick Helm: This Means War).
As in the Edinburgh run Mr. Swallow – Houdini will feature a recreation of one of Houdini’s most famous tricks - the underwater escape. Mr. Swallow will attempt to free himself from locked shackles and escape the tank before it’s too late.
