Interview: Rarely Asked Questions - Dan Renton Skinner aka Angelos Epithemiou: Page 2 of 2

What do your parents/children (delete as applicable) think of your job?

My parents think it's great. They're very enthusiastic supporters and strangely, the weirder the stuff I do, the more they seem to like it. My son couldn't care less, he's 3 months old.

What’s the worst thing about being a comedian?

There's an awful lot of sifting to be done. Lots of words written for only a few small bits that you might eventually use

I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m asking these questions). What do you think of you?

Well that's a good one. I think I'm very lucky to have found something I love doing and get to do it for a living and meet and work with the people I have. It's great fun.

How much do you earn and how much would you like to earn?

I earn enough to work for a bit and then spend time writing or creating something new for a bit which is nearly always unpaid. I'd like to earn 7 million quid a year.

How important is luck in terms of career success – have you had lucky breaks?

Well one mans luck is another mans fate etcs...I feel I was extremely lucky when I first contacted Bob Mortimer my timing was perfect because they were bringing back Shooting Stars and they were looking for someone new to be on it. That suited me down to the ground. I'd been doing Angelos for about 7 years by then so I felt that I could cope with any environment.

Alan Davies has said that comedians fall into two categories - golfers and self-harmers. The former just get on with life, the latter are tortured artists. Which are you – or do you think you fit into a third category?

There must be the self harming golfer category? Actually I'm probably more the golfer type. Just crack on, no real dramas.

Who is your favourite person ever and why – not including family or friends or other comedians?

Mani from The Stone Roses. I'm a huge fan and he's made some of my dreams come true!

Do you keep your drawers tidy and if not why not?

I do actually.
