Rarely Asked Questions – Kerry Godliman: Page 2 of 2

6. What do your parents/children (delete as applicable) think of your job?

My parents are proud of what I do, but I don’t let them come to gigs much. I don’t like doing stand up in front of family. It’s too exposing. It feels like you’ve popped to the shops with a boob out.

7. What’s the worst thing about being a comedian?

I’m not a fan of long car journeys. Travelling is the worst bit for me. The loneliness of the road.  Podcasts help.

8. I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m asking these questions). What do you think of you?

If you catch me in a good mood after a good gig that’s under and hour from where I live I think I’m perfectly good comedian. In a bad mood, after a tough gig, driving hours alone through the night I think I’m a fraud. Pretty text book.

9. How much do you earn and how much would you like to earn?

Being self-employed means your earnings fluctuate all over the place.

10. How important is luck in terms of career success – have you had lucky breaks?

The harder you work, the luckier you get. No one can depend exclusively on luck.

11. Alan Davies has said that comedians fall into two categories - golfers and self-harmers. The former just get on with life, the latter are tortured artists. Which are you – or do you think you fit into a third category?

I’m not a golfer or a self-harmer. I’m neither super breezy or riddled with angst. I reckon I’m somewhere in the middle.

12. Who is your favourite person ever and why – not including family or friends or other comedians?

All my favourite people are family and friends and comedians. Who else is there?

13. Do you keep your drawers tidy and if not why not? (this is to settle an argument with my girlfriend. If you've taken my side thank you in advance)

All the drawers in our house are full of crap. Wires, foreign coins, old keys, electrical manuals, kids baby teeth, marbles, blunt pencils, scratched CDs, its all in there. I did have a book on clearing out your clutter.  But I lost it in all the detritus.
