News: Eddie Izzard Raises Over £2 Million for Sport Relief

The total amount of money that Eddie Izzard has raised for Sport Relief this year now stands at £2,107,796.

Following the screening of Eddie Izzard: Marathon Man For Sport Relief on BBC2 last night another £300,000 was donated.

The documentary followed the comedian as he ran 27 marathons in 27 days in South Africa to raise money and marked the 27 years that the late South African president Nelson Mandela spent in prison. Izzard had already attempted to do this once before but had to stop for health reasons. The documentary laid bare the pain of his momentous challenge.

At one point it looked as if the 54-year-old had health problems again. Early on during his attempt he had to take a day off, which was why on the very last day he ran two marathons to meet his target.
