Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Nina Conti: Page 2 of 2

6. What do your parents/children (delete as applicable) think of your job?

I texted my mum to ask her and she’s just replied “ingenious, magical, joy giving, so clever and completely unexpected”. I’m touched and surprised! Relieved she doesn’t think it vainglorious because she’s having to get two new knees from all the babysitting I ask of her.

7. What’s the worst thing about being a comedian?

The buck stops here, but that’s also one of the best things.

8. I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m asking these questions). What do you think of you?

Oh my days, its a muddling question, pride and shame in equal measure. I guess that suits the dichotomy of my act.

9. How much do you earn and how much would you like to earn?

Somewhere between not enough and too much.  I’d like to earn too much but then hang on a minute,  ohmmmmmm..downward dog… baddafuckintadasna….I want for nothing.

10. How important is luck in terms of career success – have you had lucky breaks?

No question that I have a lot to be grateful for, and lots of things I’m lucky to have.  At shows you can be lucky and unlucky and those experiences kind of cancel each other out.

11. Alan Davies has said that comedians fall into two categories - golfers and self-harmers. The former just get on with life, the latter are tortured artists. Which are you – or do you think you fit into a third category?

I’m in a third category of the tortured golfer.

12. Who is your favourite person ever and why - not including family or friends or other comedians?

Favourite person ever???? Ever?? AARRH I don’t know? I can’t handle this question

13. Do you keep your drawers tidy and if not why not?

Not tidy! I have no time for that shit!
