News: Andy Parsons Leaves Mock The Week

Andy Parsons

Andy Parsons is leaving Mock The Week after 10 years to focus on new projects, including his live show and podcast ‘Slacktivist Action Group’.

Commenting on his move he said: “People say you mellow as you get older. But I think I’m angrier now than I’ve ever been. Because when you’re young, you think things are going to change. Take the House of Lords – they’ve been trying to reform that since I was in nappies. We’ve now just added 45 more Lords to make 826 in total, with average expenses per Lord per year of £100,000, in a chamber that holds 240 seats. So for starters we should get all of those 826 Lords on those 240 seats and take a photo to show what a ridiculous system we currently have, and if the parties can’t agree on reform, then we should just have a big game of musical chairs and the last 600 are out.”

Parsons' Slacktivist Action Group meets monthly at the Soho Theatre. He will be joined by MPs, journalists, experts and comedian to discuss a current topic before deciding on some direct action that they will try to achieve before the next month’s meeting. The direct action could be absolutely anything - from sit-ins to lie-downs to flashmobbing a coffee morning. The group will then adjourn to the bar.

The first meeting of the Slacktivist Action Group takes place on Monday 26th October with guests Geraint Davies MP, Frances O'Grady (General Secretary of the TUC) and Ian Dunt (Editor of Politics.co.uk). Joining Andy for the next meeting on Monday 30th November will be David Halfon MP (Shadow Foreign Minister), Helen Lewis (Assistant Editor of the New Statesman) and Mark Steel (Press Guild Columnist of the Year 2015). Confirmed guests for meetings in the New Year include: Tommy Sheppard MP, Mary Creagh MP, Margaret Hodge MP, Christine Payne (General Secretary of Equity), Deborah Orr (Guardian columnist) and Philip Collins (Times columnist).

A live podcast recording will be available for free download via Acast after the show.
