HarperCollins Drops David Walliams Backlist

HarperCollins drops David Walliams backlist

The Bookseller has reported that HarperCollins has dropped the backlist of children’s author David Walliams,

HarperCollins has not commented but has confirmed this to The Bookseller.

This follows the publisher dropping Walliams in December over allegations of “inappropriate behaviour”.and an investigation in the Telegraph. HarperCollins said at the time: “After careful consideration, and under the leadership of its new CEO, HarperCollins UK has decided not to publish any new titles by David Walliams. The author is aware of this decision.

HarperCollins stock will still be available to buy in various formats but The Bookseller says these will gradually be phased out.

The Bookseller has contacted Walliams’ agent for comment.

Walliams is the fourth-biggest author – in both volume and value – since accurate records began with 26.6 million copies for £154.7m sold through NielsenIQ BookScan’s Total Consumer Market (TCM).
