Hat Trick Sets Up Live Comedy Arm

Television production company Hat Trick Productions have announced that they will be producing a slate of live comedy shows at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.

In further news, the company is setting up its own live comedy touring arm, bringing together the creative forces of Queenie Miller (Queenie Miller Live) and Simon Morley and Becca Thomason of Margate’s Chump’s Comedy under Hat Trick’s roof to head up the new operation.

The move signals Hat Trick’s continued ability to remain ahead of the curve in diversifying how it identifies, develops and produces the next generation of TV comedy talent.

Jimmy Mulville, Hat Trick founder (responsible for TV comedy staples such as Have I Got News For YouDerry GirlsFather TedSmoggie QueensWhose Line Is It Anyway? and Outnumbered), said: “Hat Trick has been supporting shows produced by Queenie Miller at the Edinburgh Fringe very successfully for a few years now so we decided this year to take it a step further and join forces with the brilliant team at Chump’s to establish a live comedy operation. We are at heart a comedy company and want to produce comedy wherever people want to watch it – television, YouTube and in theatres.

Queenie Miller is a producer at Hat Trick, creating original scripted comedy. She is a critically acclaimed and Edinburgh Comedy Award-nominated live producer known for championing distinctive comedic voices and creating ambitious, sell-out stage shows. In two consecutive years at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and London’s Soho Theatre, her productions have been widely recognised, earning further nominations for the Comedian’s Choice Award, the ISH Award, the Malcolm Hardee Award, and Next Up’s Biggest Award in Comedy, while also being named among British Comedy Guide’s Best Reviewed Shows of the Fringe in 2024 and 2025. She returns to the Fringe in 2026 with a slate of shows for Hat Trick Productions (full details below).

Founded by Simon Morley and Becca Thomason in early 2023, Chump's Comedy was set up with the aim of bringing a diverse mix of household names and exceptional new comic acts to their hometown of Margate. Over the last 3 years they've put the coastal town on the map for comedy, whether it's for tour shows, works in progress or mixed bills. Their work spans far beyond live nights and far beyond Kent: running improv courses with The Free Association, programming comedy at music festivals (End Of The Road Festival and Smugglers Festival), and producing comedy specials (Lou Sanders, Stevie Martin), national tours (Adam Riches, Dan Schreiber) and a major charity fundraiser at the Hackney Empire for Samaritans.

Simon Morley and Becca Thomason of Chump’s Comedy, said: “We’re very excited to be working with Queenie and Hat Trick and are looking forward to building a live department alongside them. We’re big fans of them and their work, and we hope to be able to help them continue to support and develop people who are making brilliant comedy, in all sorts of weird and wonderful shapes and sizes, in this new venture together.”

Queenie Miller said: “It’s an honour and a privilege to be trusted with Hat Trick’s Instagram password. All credit to Jimmy for allowing me to bang on about this operation, every success is owed to his limitless vision and ability to overlook my many flaws. We’re already getting to work developing some incredibly exciting, off-putting, stupid, brilliant shows for Fringe 2026, and Chump’s coming aboard strengthens this tenfold. They’re the best in the biz, and I’m elated to be growing our presence in the live space together.”

The company’s inaugural tour show will be Jack Barry: Let’s Get Barried, with full details to follow in due course.
