Chatter about Richard Osman's House of Games has been dominated over the last week by the bombshell that Richard Osman is leaving the show. As much as I imagine he loves hosting this show and seeing his face on wheelie suitcase prizes I guess he's got plenty on his plate what with novels, his Rest is Entertainment podcast and various other irons in the creative fire. Of course, he'll always have a soft spot for House of Games – his future wife, Ingrid Oliver, was a contestant on the show.
So a lot of talk has been about who will take over. I've seen various names mooted, from top previous champion Angela Barnes, to Alex Brooker, David Mitchell and Nick Mohammed. It has to be someone smart, but also someone who can connect with people. What about Chris McCausland, who is one of the guests this week alongside Claire Richards, Adele Roberts and Olly Smith?
McCausland has been on the rise since winning Strictly Come Dancing and it would be a bold move to turn the programme into Chris McCausland's House of Games, but I'm sure it could be done and I'm sure, having taken on Strictly Come Dancing, he would be up for the challenge. And of course he's already done well on the show and proved his general knowledge chops by winning his way to this week's Champions week.
On the other hand, of course, McCausland hardly needs the work. He has recently been announced as one of the guest sheriffs in the mystery play Whodunnit at the Park Theatre in north London. And he's still got lots more dates on his Yonks! live tour which has been going on for, well, yonks.
But this week quiz fans will be watching him on Richard Osman's Hosue of Games. Let see how the wisecracking Liverpudland does. Winning the show would certainly be a great way of putting in a job application.
