News: Stewart Lee To Compere Folk Tribute

Stewart Lee

Stewart Lee is to compere a night at the South Bank Centre paying tribute to folk legend Shirley Collins. All in the Downs, a celebration of Shirley Collins on her 80th birthday (5 July) at the Queen Elizabth Hall, also features a plethora of folk musicians including Olivia Chaney, Sam Lee and the five-piece band Trembling Bells led by John Kirkpatrick playing Collins’ repertoire and music inspired by it.

Lee has already recorded a version of the Collins song Polly on the Shore with Stuart Estell for an album of Collins cover versions released earlier this year entitled Shirley Inspired. He was quoted as saying the following at the time: "Even though I am a folk fan, I like lots of different music and Shirley's in the top 10 of all artists for me, irrespective of what they're supposed to be classified as."

Tickets available here.

Lee is also due to return to the South Bank on January 9 & 11, 2016, to do two marathon Room With A Stew stand-up sets previewing his entire next BBC2 series of Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle each night. Tickets here.
