
The writers on Hat Trick Productions’ American version of ‘Have I Got News For You’ (for CNN Originals) have received a nomination at the 2026 Writers Guild of America Awards.
The nomination comes in the ‘Comedy/ ariety – Talk or Sketch’ category, and sees the writing team on Hat Trick’s US version of its long-running UK comedy staple nominated alongside:

Receiving the nomination are Have I Got News For You US’s writing team of Mason Steinberg (Head Writer), Jim Biederman, Daniel Chamberlain, Jodi Lennon, Michael Pielocik and Jill Twiss.

Launching in September 2024, CNN’s Have I Got News For You US has recently kicked off its fourth series. Always relevant and of-the-moment, the show serves up a smart and edgy take on the news of the week, as the comic trio of host Roy Wood Jr. and team captains Amber Ruffin and Michael Ian Black guide a rotating collection of guests through an array of games and quick-witted panel conversations that test their knowledge of current events.

The Writers Guild of America Awards honour outstanding achievement in screenwriting, TV, streaming, news, radio/audio and promo writing. The 78th Annual Awards 2026 will take place in Los Angeles on Sunday 8th March, hosted by stand-up comedian, writer and actress Atsuko Okatsuka. Voting for the awards opened on Friday 30th January.
