Alan Carr's Changing Ends Returns

TV Review: Changing Ends, ITVX

After becoming the biggest new half-hour comedy launch on any channel in 2024, the hugely popular and award-winning Changing Ends returns for a third series this autumn.

Since its original launch, Celebrity Traitors star Alan Carr’s semi-autobiographical comedy has been streamed over 14 million times on ITVX, been BAFTA-nominated and earlier this year won an RTS Award.

Changing Ends is based on Alan’s own life in Northampton in the 1980s growing up as the son of a fourth division football manager.

We join the third series in the summer of 1989 as Alan (Oliver Savell) enters a new era as a fully-fledged teenager - growing up brings Alan new problems as he struggles to find his place in the world and gets particularly hot under the collar around his new crush Jake. At the same time, Graham faces the heat from fans and managers as the Cobblers take a dive in the Third Division.

Does love struck Alan suppress this crush or shout about it from the rooftops? Whatever happens, it’s going to be tough as Alan has the thankless task of navigating through the adolescent minefields that are sleepovers, swimming lessons and nights out with the boys and the girls - it’s not all doom and gloom, though as some unexpected allies give Alan a much-needed glimpse of a hopeful future and they’re not a million miles away from his own doorstep.

Produced by Baby Cow Productions, written by Alan Carr, co-written by Gabby Best and co-created by the late Simon Carlyle. The director is Dave Lambert and the producer is Mollie Freedman Berthoud.

The executive producers are Baby Cow’s Sarah Monteith and Rupert Majendie, Alan Carr and Danny Julian.

Baby Cow is a BBC Studios-owned production label - BBC Studios are handling the international distribution of both series.

All episodes from Series 1 & 2 are available to watch for free via ITVX.
