Johnny Vegas has appeared on Radio X, where he showed off what he calls the ‘best thing he’s ever bought in his life’ – an antique, 70-year-old Thirsty Bear toy that shakes with alcohol tremors when you wind it up...

Vegas was talking to Toby Tarrant (sitting in for Chris Moyles) on The Chris Moyles Show.

While they were chatting Vegas revealed what he had with him: “I've got in a bag out there – I think I bought the best thing I'll ever buy in my life. I’m showing this to everyone today, because I swear to God… It’s meant to be a toy. But do you know when you want a toy that reminds you why mum and dad aren't together anymore?”

After cranking up the excitement the comic pulled his bear out. “What child on Christmas morning doesn’t want a Thirsty Bear? Complete with an iffy looking outfit, but watch him. So, let's wind him up. I think they’re trying to suggest that's lemonade. When you see him move, you're going to go, ‘That’s not lemonade!’ Somehow, the designers managed to include DTs [delirium tremens]. Watch him go! ‘That’s me off to work, love.’”

As Toby Tarrant laughed Vegas added: “Isn’t it just wrong? It’s so wrong it’s right. It's basically a bear that's supposed to be drinking lemonade, but seems to… Basically, yeah, it’s pouring itself a very stiff drink before embarking on another day.”

He bought it recently and got such a bargain maybe he should be on the Antiques Roadshow. “£85. £85, and I was offered £220.”
