News: Comedy Goes Underground

Tony Marrese

Just when you think stand-ups have gigged everywhere they find another place to perform. A group of comics have launched a project called Wonky Zombie and are doing gigs on London Underground trains. They did their first gig on a Victoria Line train on March 27 and have just released the footage on YouTube.

Tony Marrese (pictured), Leo Kearse, Christian Elderfield, Chris Joyce and Dave Alfie Ward entertained passengers with gags all the way to Brixton and back. Reigning UK Pun Champion Kearse fared - no pun intended – best with his quickfire wordplay: “My mate sat on my pumpkin. He butternut squash it.”

According to Marrese the gig went down really well, although the footage does show a more mixed response: “No trouble from staff, no trouble at all really. We are planning to do more in the next two weeks, with more comics and funny people. We didn't ask for any money, and weren't given any.”

No critics were present but Marrese says that these were some comments from commuters.

'Really made my journey' Jane from Stockwell

'Bloody really funny' GiGi on holiday from Italy

'Don't talk to me' George from Athens, Greece

“Our target will be to do a gig on every line... spreading the comedy love!” says Marrese.
