Trevor Noah is to be the new host of The Daily Show. It has been reported that he will take over later this year from long-standing host Jon Stewart, who announced he was leaving in February.

Noah has been a success in his appearances as one of the Comedy Central topical show's roving reporters and last night online reports suggested that he was a front-runner to take over from Stewart.

In a statement Stewart said: “I’m thrilled for the show and for Trevor. He’s a tremendous comic and talent that we’ve loved working with.” Stewart joked that he “may rejoin as a correspondent just to be a part of it!!!”

Noah is due to tour the UK this autumn. There is no news yet whether this appointment will affect his live dates.
