News: Did Eddie Murphy Gig Or Didn't He?

Did Eddie Murphy make a comeback appearance in Los Angeles last night or didn't he?

Reports said that Murphy did his first gig for over two decades at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles. Chortle said that he comic performed "a ten-minute set at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles last night - 28 years after his last stand-up special Raw."

But Matt Kirshen, the British comedian who is based in America, was at the venue and is not so sure. Posting on Facebook today he said said the following:

"I was at the Store last night. Admittedly in a different room, doing Set List for most of the evening, but you don't get someone even half as big as Murphy dropping in without the entire building buzzing about it. At no point did my gig empty as people ran downstairs, nor did I hear any staff, or other comics talking about it. There wasn't a single smartphone pic. One site claimed there was a no-recording policy, but you still can't stop a single iPhone snap, particularly when you can stand in the outside bar and see the stage of the Original Room through the glass window.

Anyway, that's a long-winded way of saying no f'in way Eddie Murphy got on stage yesterday."

One suggestion is that a tweet sent by Murphy's fellow veteran comedian Arsenio Hall, who did do a set, was misinterpreted: "Yo @Eddiemurphy ... just went on at the @TheComedyStore! - Come on and Take 5 one nite!" The theory is that he was inviting Murphy to "come on" like he had just done, and was not saying that Murphy "just went on".
