News: Comedy Legend Mel Brooks Appears In UK

Mel Brooks

Comedy legend Mel Brooks is to make a one-off live appearance in London. The show will be at the Prince of Wales Theatre on March 22.

Brooks, now 88, is most famous these days for the musical version of The Producers. Lee Evans starred in the first West End production and a new touring version in the UK features Jason Manford, Ross Noble and Phill Jupitus.

Back in the 1960s Brooks recorded a famous sketch, The 2000 Year-Old Man with Carl Reiner, and recently gave permission for a stage version to be performed by actor Kerry Shale. This new version opens at JW3 next week.

The gig is billed as his first-ever solo show, although he was interviewed on the West End stage in 2006 by Alan Yentob. Review here.

Promoting this new gig Brooks said: I am thrilled to bring this introspective retrospective of my life and career to the West End stage,” said Mel Brooks. “It will be an evening the audience will never forge  – whether they want to or not!”
