Just For Laughs Festival 2024 In Montreal Cancelled

Comedy Garden Returns With Sam Campbell And Many More

The 2024 Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal has been cancelled. The company that operates the long-running festival took the step after filing a notice of intention to make a proposal to creditors — a formal process under Canada's Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.

In a press release issued today Groupe Juste pour rire inc. (JPR) said it plans to "maintain JPR's operations, albeit in a scaled-down format”. The organisers are planning to restructure the event.

“Once the restructuring is completed, we hope that the festival will take place in 2025," the statement reads.

The company pointed to a drop in revenue during the pandemic as well as reduced budgets at networks and streaming platforms as reasons for the current restructuring.

It has not been announced what will be happening about various spin-off festivals. Last March there was a Just For Laughs weekend in London at the 02 Arena. There are currently just two Just for Laughs London events on the Indigo2 website - Sam Campbell (pictured) on March 15 and a St Patrick's Day special featuring Dara O Briain, Ardal O'Hanlon, Andrew Maxwell and Deirdre O'Kane on March 16.
