Richard Osman's House Of Games Champions Week

Richard Osman's House Of Games Champions Week

It's another Champions Week for Richard Osman's House of Games and it's a strong line-up indeed, with Nihal Arthanayake, Jay McGuiness, Lucy Porter and Jan Ravens.

If I was a betting man I'd put my short on Lucy Porter. As well as being a very funny comedian Porter is also a quiz specialist who has run her own quiz with her husband Justin Edwards. She has a quick brain and a. wide range of knowledge so should do well. If you like her she ihas also recently announced a tour, entitled No Regrets.

In her new touring show Lucy will look at the thoughts and actions we might all collectively regret - not sticking to the work-life balance we strove for during lockdown, not realising that clapping for the NHS wouldn’t be enough to save it, allowing people we thought were quite fun on TV to become politicians. Dates and details here.

Jan Ravens is another legendary comic who actually directed the Cambridge Footlights when they featured the likes of Emma Thompson, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie and Tony Slattery and won the very first Perrier Award in 1981. Raven is best known for her spot-on impressions on Dead Ringers. She also happens to be the mother of stand-up Alfie Brown so funny bones run in her family.

I've become a bit addicted to Nihal Arthanayake's Radio 5 programmes which runs on weekdays after lunch. He has great guests and often has unprecedented access, getting the chance to have really in-depth conversations. He has my sympathies though as he is a fellow Spurs supporter.

And finally there is Jay McGuiness, singer, songwriter, actor and author best known as a vocalist with boy band The Wanted. Could Jay come up trumps? Possibly, but I still think the smart money should be on Lucy Porter.
