Comedian Paul Smith Loses First (And Last) MMA Fight

Comedian Opens Up In Advance Of His MMA Fight

Comedian Paul Smith lost his first Mixed Martial Arts fight last night against reality TV star Jake Quickenden at Manchester's AO Arena.

Jake Quickenden stopped Smith in the first round.

The promoters Oktagon MMA posted: "Both men totally dedicated themselves to the sport for a year and have gained everyone’s endless respect."

The fight was filmed for a Channel 4 documentary "Stage to the Cage" which follows them dedicate their lives to MMA over a 10-month long journey.

Both men have been fans of the sport for many years. Jake and Paul’s progress will be tracked in the multi-episode documentary so the general public can become invested in their stories and follow their progress from novices to fully-fledged professional fighters.

It sounds like this is a one-off for Smith, who is touring his stand-up show soon. He said before the fight: “I am 100% saying I am not going to carry on fighting, but I will definitely continue training! I travel a lot and I know Jake does as well, and to do that is fantastic, but sometimes it can get a bit lonely when you’re doing that.

These gyms are like families and they really welcome you into these places and show you the love that they do, it’s been a real eye-opener here for me."
