Jon Culshaw to Play John Lydon In BBC Drama

Jon Culshaw is set to play Sex Pistol Johnny Rotten/John Lydon in a new BBC Radio drama. 

Never Mind the Ballocks, to be broadcast on Radio 4 on  Saturday 7th October 2023, at 3pm, will tell the story of the obscenity trial over the album title Never Mind The Bollocks being displayed in a record shop window. Alistair McGowan (The Big Impression) will play John Mortimer QC who was the defence QC. The trial famously questioned public attitudes towards "bad language". The drama is written by Michael Eaton and produced by Perfectly Normal Productions for BBC Radio 4. 

The news comes shortly after it was announced that Jon Culshaw will be appearing at this year's Edinburgh Fringe in a new impressions show entitled Imposter Syndrome (pictured). Buy tickets here.

Culshaw recently played comic legend Les Dawson in a stage production about the stand-up life.

The Sex Pistols drama is part of a new series illuminating historic turning points. Also in the series there is a drama about the groundbreaking comedy Beyond the Fringe, which not only transformed the style of British comedy, lighting the fuse of the satire boom, it also fired a broadside at The Establishment and sent a blast of fresh air through the fusty corridors of power.

The performers Alan Bennett, Peter Cook, Jonathan Miller and Dudley Moore opened the door to social change through their iconic comedy. This drama takes listeners behind the scenes, examining what made Beyond the Fringe so significant. Written by Jeremy Front and produced by BBC Audio Drama, to be broadcast on Saturda,y 5 August 2023 at 3pm. Casting is still to be announced.
