Sunday Brunch Guests This Week

Sunday Brunch Guests This Week

This week's guests on Sunday Brunch are Mark Gatiss, briodcaster Fearne Cotton, drag star Cheryl Hole and author and podcast host Giovanna Fletcher.

It is hard to say what Mark Gatiss is most famous fort these days. He broke through as part of the League of Gentlemen sketch team but since then has gone on to do all sorts of interesting artistic endeavours. He has written/adapted Christmas horror stories for the BBC, he played Sherlock Holmes' brother Mycroft in the hit BBC series with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. He even reunited with his League colleagues Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton in an episode of Inside No 9 last year. Gatiss has also been involved in Dr Who, onscreen and behind the scenes.

And now he has reunited with Reece Shearsmith again with a stage production. Gatiss is the director of The Unfriend, written by Sherlock writer Steven Moffat, which has just transferred from the Chichester Festival to the Criterion Theatre in London. Shearsmith is one of the stars alongside Frances Barber (who has been in Doctor Who) and Amanda Abbington (who, of course has also been in Sherlock). And I haven't even mentioned Dracula and his novels.

The Unfriend is a modern take on British manners. Shearsmith and Abbington play a nice middle class couple who meet a brashy, brassy American (Barber) on a cruise. somehow they exchange email addresses and the next thing you know the brashy, brassy American has turned up at their house. And a bit of googling suggests that she might be a murderer. Do they want her to stay? Are they too polite to ask her to leave? What are they going to do about their boring neighbour? You'll have to buy a ticket to find out. Details here.

And, of course, Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer will be asking the questions and getting the guests to help out in Rimmer's kitchen.

Sunday Brunch, Sunday, January 22, 9.30am, C4.
