The John Bishop Show Returns

John Bishop Show Guests This Week

I looked in the schedules earlier to see what time The Jonathan Ross Show was on tonight and couldn't find it. Instead I saw that a new series of The John Bishop Show starts this Saturday.

The ITV press information doesn't say much about the show except that "Award-winning comedy superstar and actor John Bishop is back for a second series of his successful Saturday night topical chat show for ITV and ITVX, The John Bishop Show."

But through a bit of social media sleuthing I think I've worked out that the guests in the first show are Harry Hill, Guz Khan and Melanie C. Apologies if I'm wrong.

Harry Hill has become something of an all-round entertainer in recent years. He is currently on a new leg of his sell-out stand-up tour Pedigree Fun, his first in ten years, and later this year the latest musical he has written with collaborator Steve Brown, Tony! The Tony Blair Rock Opera, goes on the road too, including a run at the Leicester Square Theatre. Though of course we would all like to see the return of TV Burp, though I guess that's asking a bit much.

Guz Khan is also hitting the road later in 2023, starting in January. I saw him in the West End in late 2022 and he was fantastic, a real force of nature. Like Romesh Ranganathan Khan is a former teacher and the lessons learnt in front of a class stand in very good stead when it comes to his mastery of a live audience. More details about his tour and dates here.

Khan is the creator and star of BBC's Man Like Mobeen and has appeared on shows including on Taskmaster (C4), The Last Leg (C4), Live at the Apollo (BBC), Hypothetical (Dave), Turn Up Charlie (Netflix) and Netflix movies Army of Thieves and The Bubble.

He was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Male Performance in a Comedy Programme and the show was nominated for Best Scripted Comedy at the 2021 Awards. At the RTS Midlands Awards in 2020, he won Best Male Actor, Best Writer and Best Craft award, which he shared jointly with co-writer Andy Milligan. It also won Best Comedy Programme at the Broadcast Digital Awards 2020, amongst a host of other accolades for all three series.

The John Bishop Show, Saturdays from January 7, 9.30pm, ITV1
