TV Review: Taskmaster Series 14, Episode 2, C4

There is usually one household name in the Taskmaster line-up but this fourteenth, yes, fourteenth, series has really pulled out the big guns, with two genuine TV stars. There is Sarah Millican and Dara O Briain – neither seems that keen on the old duffer role – joined by John Kearns, Munya Chawawa and Fern Brady. Who will bag the crown? It's anybody's guess.

In the first episode things looked pretty open. One nice challenge was working out what film was represented by various objects. While a big cube with your face on it was on your head so that you couldn't see whyat you were doing. I particularly liked the golf iron with cornflakes on it which represented the Breakfast Club. It all flashed past very fast. I still don't know whether the answer for the two boulders on the table was Rocky or Romancing The Stone.

Somehow the makers of the programme managed to film the next chappenge in a completely empty Gatwick South Terminal where everyone had to chuck loo rolls from upstairs and land them in an unplumbed toilet bowl on the ground floor. Which was tougher than it looked. Dara O Briain, smart cookie, had the idea of bunching the paper up and scored a number of bullseyes. Munya, who seems obsessed with gardens, tried a similar thing and was rubbish.

I wasn't sure about the painting challenge where players controlled the drips from Alex Horne's painty hose by shouting out names of fish and birds. It all felt a little too random to me. Whereas the closing studio challenge was part Jenga, part Buckaroo as they had to load items of clothing on a scale and not be the one to make it tip.

I won't say who won in case you haven't watched yet, but this could be a great series. I just hope Fern Brady, in a very tight one piece superhero suit, manages to get to the loo when she needs it. And I don't mean the unplumbed one in the Gatwick south terminal.

Oh and Munya's eyebrows deserve a spin-off series of their own.

Taskmaster, Thursdays, 9pm, C4.
